Workout Style: What Is a HIIT Workout?

Have you heard of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)? Most likely you have. It has remained one of the best and most effective fitness trends since 2017. So what is this type of training all about and does it fit in with your workout style?

HIIT, or high intensity interval training, is a method of exercise where you go all-out and give one hundred percent effort through rapid, intense bursts of exercise. These bursts are then followed by short, sometimes active, recovery intervals. This type of fitness training gets and keeps your heart rate up, which is optimal for burning calories.

HIIT (high intensity interval training) may not be for everyone, it really depends on your health and fitness goals. Definitely talk it over with your personal trainer before deciding if it’s the right fit for you. In the meantime, here are some benefits of High Intensity Interval Training.

HIIT Workouts Reduce Your Metabolism

Combing high intensity workouts with interval training results in EPOC (Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption). Say what? Basically, it increases your metabolic rate. It can even increase your metabolism for as much as 48 hours after a comprehensive HIIT routine. This means that you'll still be burning off fat even after you have left the gym.
